Lee
In the beginning: Lee is an open minded grade 6 piano player. He lives on top of his restaurant in the busiest part of town. Before the war he helped his family in the restaurant. He can be quite serious at times but also has a sense of humour. Later in the book Ellie and Lee become a couple. He was invited by Ellie on the camping trip because she thought he was an interesting person underneath his seriousness. He can be quite sulky when things are against him and won’t talk to anyone for days. HE doesn’t really talk to Ellie and her friends at school but Ellie and him were biology partners. He has deep brown eyes and a black crew-cut.
End of book: I think Lee has become more cautious of what he does, and more stone hearted towards the invaders. He and Ellie have become much closer since the beginning.

Homer
In the beginning: Homer lives down the road from Ellie, he lives with his parents and his brother, George. He doesn’t care what everyone thinks of him. He’s always in trouble and Ellie thinks of him as ‘wild and outrageous’. He likes swimming, music and hunting. Ellie and him were quite close and they’ve known each other for quite a long time. Later in the book he and Fi start going out.
End of book: Homer has grown more of a leader since the war began, because everyone put him in charge. He has become a much faster thinker and studies everything in much more detail for making plans. He and fi have become much closer, given that they had barely known each other at the start of the book.

Fi
In the beginning: Fi lives in town, in a mansion, on the hill, with her parents. Ellie thinks she is graceful, pretty and brave. She faces things that she is scared to do. She’s really girly and doesn’t live on a farm, like the others but spends a lot of time playing the piano rather than doing dirty work. Later in the book Fi and Homer start going out with each other.
End of book: Fi has become much braver than she was originally. She was first scared of bugs then she goes blowing up bridges. Homer and Fi become much closer.

Robyn
In the beginning: Robyn is a determined religious girl. She is quiet, serious and always wins effort awards at school but once you get to know her she is determined and likes to win. She can be brave, is a quick thinker to solutions and does what she think is right.
End of book: I think Robyn has become more reasonable since the start of the book. She was really reluctant to hurt people at first but then saw that as reasonable given that they were invading her country.

Ellie
In the beginning: Ellie is the main character in this book. She can be quite self-centred at times but is a nice person. She and Lee start going out later in the book. She is a natural leader and can be convincing that they can do it. She lives on farm with her parents and animals.
Chris- Chris is a genius. He smokes pot and his motto is ‘if it grows smoke it.’ He can be a little lazy and in the book he once fell asleep when he was sentry. He’s quite quiet around his Dad and isn’t really trusted. A lot of kids at school think he’s weird.
End of book: Ellie has become more of a leader and has become closer to all the characters but especially Lee.

Kevin
In the beginning: Kevin is a sensitive person who is terrified of bugs. He lives on a farm with sheep with his family. He can get on everyone’s nerves but Ellie thinks he’s good for corrie (his girlfriend) because she is more confident around him. He is known around the school for his big ego and takes all the credit for everything. Kevin is the oldest out of the group. He got invited by Corrie.
End of book: Corrie and Kevin have become much closer and when he went with her to the hospital you could kind of see that.

Corrie
In the beginning: Corrie and Ellie have been friends for ages. Corrie owns a farm with her parents. Before the war Corrie and Kevin were ‘together’ so that’s how Kevin got invited. Ellie claims that although Kevin can be annoying he’s good for Corrie because she’s much less shy since meeting him.
End of book: Corrie in the end of the book has become much braver than she was before the war had started. I also think that she and Kevin became closer because they were with each other a lot.

Chris
End of book: Chris hasn’t changed that much. But I think he’s gotten braver like everyone else.
